Baby Girl’s Nursery Inspiration

Early on in our infertility treatments, I used to spend a lot of time dreaming about the nursery space we would create for a baby. When we were living in Florida I thought about how to do that in our two-bedroom apartment, and then when we moved to Pennsylvania I thought about which of the three bedrooms would be best suited for that purpose. Some time in between years two and three of treatments though, thinking about a nursery that seemed out of reach just lost its appeal. It wasn’t fun to dream about what the space could be like, instead it just hurt too much. So I put those thoughts aside and waited for a time that felt right again.

I came back to thinking about plans for a nursery a few months ago as we really started to work on our baby registries. Thinking about a crib choice, what sort of rocking chair would be most comfortable while not taking up too much room, and how to use the antique dresser we already have in that room got me excited to dream about that space again. And now that I am squarely in the third trimester of this pregnancy, we’ve started working to make those dreams a reality!

I have long used Pinterest as the place to keep my ideas as we’ve worked on various projects within our home. Pinning images of rooms, furniture pieces, and colors that I like helps me identify the overall feel that I want to achieve in a space, and my approach for starting to design Baby Girl’s nursery was no different. Here are some of the room inspiration photos that have guided my thoughts and choices so far!

wallpaper

When we moved into our home, we purchased this beautiful blue and grey floral wallpaper by Rifle Paper Co. to use in our dining room. But as with all home projects, plans changed so we decided we would use it instead in the nursery!

As we’ve been working to wrap up other home projects in preparation for Baby Girl’s arrival we decided (rather last minute) to add some wallpaper in our powder room (as a chance to practice hanging wallpaper since we’ll do the nursery ourselves) and in doing so, we realized there is no way we have enough of this wallpaper to cover the entire room! Now you might say, “just order some more” - but it’s never that easy, is it? Since we first ordered this wallpaper, Rifle Paper Co. has started partnering with a new wallpaper manufacturing company, so what we have is literally all we can get - we can’t buy any more in the colorway that we have! So now we’re back to square one and reviewing an entirely new set of wallpaper samples to use instead. Here is the original wallpaper we planned to use, as well as a few others that have caught my eye!

Some of these items we have added to our baby registries, others I plan to eventually purchase on our own, and some are just purely for inspiration!

After years of not knowing whether or not I’d ever get to plan and design a nursery, these last couple of months of really digging in and figuring out the vibe and aesthetic I’d like to achieve in this space for our little girl has been lots of fun. There is still so much work we have to do in that room before it’s ready, but I’m confident we’ll have it finished by the time we welcome her in a couple of months!
